Folktown Market – Belfast’s premier outdoor artisan market in Bank Square – ‘Springs’ back into action with a special Easter holiday celebration on March 24.
The market will feature live music, more than 18 stalls and a giant marquee offering traditional children’s street games and crafts.
Folktown Director Sophie Rasmussen said the Thursday market’s unique and friendly atmosphere has attracted legions of fans and is hoping that more people will sample its pleasures in the weeks and months ahead.
“We took a short break over the cold winter months but are so happy to be back with a brilliant selection of food and craft stalls. The market is all about people hanging out, enjoying the open air and celebrating the best that Belfast has to offer,” she said.
To get the word out, Folktown have a team of dedicated volunteers who will be riding special Folktown bicycles around the city centre in the coming weeks to make sure people know Belfast’s own bohemian market in beautifully renovated Bank Square is back.
The market runs every Thursday from 9am to 4pm with a range of artisan food and craft stalls and live music in the shadow of two of Belfast’s oldest churches, Berry Street Presbyterian Church and St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church.
The Spring market on March 24 will feature gypsy jazz from Manouche and will also showcase the ‘City As A Gallery’ project – screening a film on Belfast’s colourful history from the back of a Black Taxi.
With this being Northern Ireland’s Year of Food and Drink, Folktown market is firmly focused on supporting locally sourced produce and products. Among the new stalls will be the specialist White Rabbit Coffee Co and Sarah’s World Fare, which specialises in delicious Vegan food, along with their regular artisan traders such as Broughgammon and Amberline Vegetables and Preserves.
