He’s worked with some of the most famous sports stars on the planet and now the world’s top motivational speaker, Watt Nicoll is coming to Belfast to inspire the city’s community coaches, young athletes and volunteers.
Watt, who is a mentor to the likes of David Beckham, Wayne Rooney and, closer to home, Jim Magilton and David Healy, is the keynote speaker at the Xtratime Club and Community Sports Conference at the Holiday Inn, Ormeau Avenue on November 7.
Voted the best Motivational Speaker in the World, Watt has shared a platform with Hillary Clinton at the worldwide ‘Vital Voices’ tour. When he comes to Belfast next month, he will spread the message of how to maximise potential and achieve success with local sports coaches and young sports stars of the future.
The conference has been organised by Belfast Community Sports Development Network (BCSDN) on behalf of Belfast City Council and the Active Belfast Consortium.
Speaking ahead of the conference, Watt was full of praise for the Irish sporting spirit.
“Although I have enjoyed the privilege of working with sports all over the world in the capacity of Mental Trainer or Motivational Guru, I continually return to my basic belief that the attitude of the Irish is one of the great untapped goldmines of potential in the world.
“Through my work within the IFA on the UEFA Pro Coaching courses, I have had the opportunity over the past ten years to understand the good work and many of the frustrations facing the Belfast Community Sports Development Network.
“This Conference will, hopefully, give me the opportunity to share some of the techniques I have used with the likes of Wayne Rooney, David Moyes, Stephen Craigan, David Healy and Jim Magilton. For those who attend I promise something different and for those who don’t attend I guarantee regret!”
Councillor Steven Corr, chairman of Belfast City Council’s Parks and Leisure Committee said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for clubs and individuals to benefit from the experience of Mr Watt and reflects the support the Council provides for local sports clubs.
“I would urge as many people as possible to take advantage of this opportunity which ties in with our plans to provide a strong, effective voice for sport in Belfast.
“Sport is an important part of keeping people healthy but it is also a great way of building community spirit which is even more important when we are all facing tough choices in the current economic climate.”
Tom Scott, Chairman of BCSDN added: “It is a real coup to have Watt address our conference. His dynamic delivery and his belief that everything is possible is certain to inspire and resonate with an audience dedicated to providing young people with sporting opportunities and a good start in life.”
As well as the keynote speech, the conference consists of a series of workshops on areas such as club development, funding, hydration and training, maximising club income and tips on how to become an elite athlete.
