The Theatre at The Mill takes a groundbreaking step this summer when it stages Northern Ireland’s first ever production of the multiple Tony award-winning musical comedy The Producers.

Some of Northern Ireland’s most talented young performers are currently in rehearsals for the Northern Ireland premiere of the smash hit show at the Newtownabbey theatre from August 3 to 11.

The show’s director Peter Corry said that Northern Ireland audiences will be wowed by this hilarious, all-singing, all-dancing musical spectacular.

This is the third production for the Theatre at The Mill Summer Youth Musical Group. The previous shows, Les Miserables (2010) and Oklahoma! (2011) received rave reviews and played to sell-out crowds.

Peter Corry has once again teamed up with top musical theatre professionals including NI Musical Director Wilson Shields and International Choreographer Fleur Mellor.

“This is a big show in every respect, full of huge dance numbers, great tunes and sparkling dialogue. This will be the first chance for audiences in Northern Ireland to see this show at home and we are excited at the prospect of premiering the show at Theatre at The Mill. The show was massive on Broadway and in the West End but for those who haven’t had the chance to see it yet, they’re in for a treat,” Peter Corry said.

The Producers is based on a Mel Brooks movie which was then developed as a hugely successful Broadway production winning 12 Tony Awards in 2001. Starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick it ran for more than 2,500 performances. It proved equally successful when transferring to London where it ran for three years and spawned a successful 2005 film.

The story tells of Broadway producer Max Bialystock and nerdy accountant Leo Bloom who plan to make millions by producing a sure-fire flop so that they can run off with the money when the show closes after its opening night. Unfortunately their musical ‘Springtime for Hitler’ is so outrageously camp it becomes a massive hit because the audience think it is a satire.

The theatre has produced a short video of the show for anyone wanting more information. It can be viewed on its homepage at www.theatreatthemill.com.

Tickets start from £9 and are available online at www.theatreatthemill.com or from the Box Office on 028 9034 0202.
