‘Appy’ Days as Gravity ploughs new furrow at Balmoral Show

Gravity, one of Northern Ireland’s leading digital agencies, has broken new ground by creating a bespoke mobile app for the Balmoral Show – the first for any agri-food festival in the UK.

The app, which is now available to download, will enable visitors to the annual agri-food extravaganza to plan their day, access the latest news and use a zoomable map to negotiate their way around the site.

Gravity Creative Director Draven McConville approached the Show’s organisers, the Royal Ulster Agricultural Society (RUAS) with the idea.

“Eighty thousand people come to the Balmoral Show every year and they need instant information. We felt that an app would make a visit to the Balmoral Show easier and even more enjoyable,” he said.

This is just the latest app to be developed by Belfast-based Gravity which is fast becoming the dominant force in the Northern Ireland app industry.

“The mobile app sector is growing and we are finding that more and more local companies are looking to us to develop handcrafted apps that will promote their services to the public,” he added.

The app is available immediately as a free download on all iPhone and Android devices.  Other features include instant access to all competition results as soon as they are put online.

Balmoral Show Marketing Executive, Tracy O’Toole said the app is an easily accessible and very useful tool for enhancing the experience of the Balmoral Show.

“Our aim is keep the Balmoral Show as up to date with new technologies and as accessible as we can. The farming community is very digitally aware and I am sure that many of them will take the opportunity to download this app.

“It has got everything you need to plan your day at the Show and navigate yourself around the Showgrounds.  You can pre-plan what you want to do and see at the Show and the timetable ensures you make the most out of your day. It is for everyone that comes to the Show or if people aren’t able to make all three days, they can keep up to date with what’s happening,” she added.

The new app contains the following features: event timetable, personal event planner, news, sponsors & exhibitors listings, site map and social media links.
